Arlington, Virginia, March 11, 2002
- J.D. Long Masonry, Inc. of Newington, VA has been chosen
as masonry contractor on the reconstruction of the Pentagon
section damaged on September 11, 2001.
The Pentagon Project or "Phoenix Project",
so dubbed after the mythical bird that is reborn
from its own ashes, has been put on an extremely fast track.
The goal of completing the renovation of the damaged area
of wedge 2, or at least the outermost corridor or "E" Wing
by September 11, 2002 is not unrealistic, but quite a daunting
task. J.D. Long Masonry is known for being able to accelerate
projects to meet fast-track schedules without sacrificing
their industry-renown quality. This aggressive schedule
calls for the five-story reinforced concrete shell of the
outermost concentric ring, damaged in the attack to be topped
out in May, with the remaining rings topping out in July.
